What's happening....

Since I haven't updated in quite some time, I'll fill everyone in on what's happening around here....

Mack is walking an running around all over the place. He looks so funny with his bow-legged little waddle. He is hilarious and though he is a man of few words, he's very smart and does the funniest things. He makes us laugh all the time.

Maddie is so grown-up. Sometimes too grown up. She starts kindergarten in less than a week and we are so sad. I can't believe this day is actually almost here. I have dreaded it for 5 years! She's getting a little nervous now, but more anxious that she has to go 5 days a week. We only went to pre-school 3 days a week. She of course will do just fine. She's so smart (and I'm not just saying that). She truly is very intelligent. She's also very funny. She says stuff that makes me laugh out loud for days!

Michael is still job hunting, so keep us in of your prayers. We just need to be able to spend more time with family and have the opportunity to make more to support our family.

I am officially a working mom. Unfortunately, I no longer have the opportunity to work from home, so Mack will be with family, babysitters and pre-school 5 days a week. I am very sad about this and struggle everyday with it. Right now, I have no other option, so please pray God will open doors there as well. I love being at home with my kids. I also love to work. That is why my situation worked so well when I could work from home. So, please pray for me during this transition. It's going to be very tough.

On the crazy life side of things....Michael is officially coaching Maddie's soccer team this year. Yikes! It should definately be crazy. Maddie is so busy, I don't know if we will even see our home except at bedtime and weekends. She has AWANAS, Soccer, Gymnastics, School, and of course we now have to start attending the Friday night football games. Go Bobcats! So, we are VERY Busy! I'm so thankful that Mack is a flexible baby. He just rolls with the punches (poor thing).

That is all for now. It's been a stressful and busy summer. God has blessed us with so much and we know that He is in control. Thank goodness!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!

I know I haven't updated in a while! I'm a bad blogger. But today is a VERY important day. Today, Mack turned 1 YEAR OLD! It's hard to believe that he has been in our lives for an entire year. So, to celebrate, here are a few 1 year old facts about Mack...

1. YOU ARE BIG. You weigh about 24 pounds and I don't even know how tall you are because we haven't gone for your one year check up yet.

2. You are a picky eater....You used to love everything, but now you spit most things out. You LOVE macaroni and cheese, cheese slices, cubed cheese, mashed potatos with cheese......you get the picture. Of course, you aren't liking cheese so much when it makes you constipated!

3. You are ACTIVE. Always on the go. You love to crawl, so walking is taking a while. You will take steps, but you prefer hands and knees.

4. You love to open the cabinet doors and get into EVERYTHING! Daddy installed childproof locks on the some of the cabinets yesterday and you got SO mad when you couldn't get them open.

5. Though you are picky about what is on your plate, you seem to eat anything off of the floor. Go figure.

6. You love doggies. You will crawl to the window and look for Ladybelle and talk to her through the door in a sweet high pitched little voice.

7. You love your sister Maddie. All you have to do is hear her voice and your face beams with delight!

8. You attempt to talk a lot, but all that comes out are a couple of words. You can say Baaohh (ball), Bup (cup), Bi (Bite), Maa (Maddie), Bu Bu (Bye, bye), D D (doggie), Da da (Daddy), Muh Muh (mommy), and lots of other things we can't make out.

9. You love to put the phone up to your ear and day Da Da.

10. You are a climber. You can climb up on anything. Yesterday you opened one of the cabinets in the living room, climbed up onto the shelf and sat inside. You also love to climb up onto your train table and stand up. I think you like feeling really tall!

11. You no longer drink formula! Yeah! And the only time you take a bottle is in the evenings before bed. That is more for mommy than you. I love our cuddle time together.

12. You love being outside!

13. You love the water. Bathtimes are so much fun.

14. You are very musical and love to "sing" into the toy microphone. I think you will be a musician someday.

15. You are shy when you meet new people and VERY attached to mommy. That's OK.

16. You have the SAME laugh as your sister. When you and her get tickled at the same time its hard to tell who's doing the laughing.

17. You have the biggest cutest cheeks and I love smooching them.

18. You LOVE your blankie. You can't sleep without it.

19. You only take one nap a day usually. I'm not to thrilled about this one. You are afraid of missing the action.

20. YOU LOVE BALLS!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are your favorite things in the world and you can spot one anywhere. I love when we pull into the Target parking lot and before we are even out of the car you are bouncing with excitement over the Big Red Balls at the front entrance. You know they are there even before we see them. You love your basketball goal and can actually hoop it pretty well. You love your ball pit. You could play in there for hours.

There are a million other cool things about you that I could list, but it would take forever. But I can't finish without saying that you are the sweetest baby ever. Easy going, happy and so much fun. And you have the best big sister in the world!

Happy 1 year Birthday Mack!!!!

Oh, and happy birthday daddy. You are an awesome husband and father and I love you so much. I can't believe you are 32! Too bad I'm still 23.....right Maddie??

The Most Important Day of My Life...

Someone posed a question to me recently....."What was the most important day of your life?"

I thought about the numerous responses that people give when asked that question. I thought about my life and how I would respond. I could say that it was the day that I realized God really is in control. I could say it was the day that I married my best friend. I could say that it was the day our beautiful daughter was born or the day that my cuddly son was born. I could answer this in many ways, but I think that if I were being truthful, I would say that the most important day of my life was the day I came to the realization that yesterday was the most important day of my life......and today is now the most important day of my life....and God willing, tomorrow will be the most important day of my life.

You see, it took me many years to understand that the moment I'm in right now is the most important moment that has or ever will have existed. It may seem insignificant. It may seem comical. It may seem exhausting, or monotonous, or uneventful. It may even seem complete and utterly forgettable. But each minute that defines a day in my life is, at that precise moment in time, what ultimately will define the importance of my being. The decisions I do and don't make on a daily basis are the essence of who I am. Choosing to spend that extra minute with my daughter.... Kissing my husband..... Cuddling my son...spending time in prayer....going over and above the call of duty....making that long, procrastinated phone call, just saying NO....whatever. These small decisions all amount to the value of my day.

Did I spend my time wisely? Did I do everything with the knowledge that this could very well be my last day on earth? Did what I do today have value? Those little decisions to make the most of every moment are what makes every day the most important day of my life. I don't always make the right decisions or say the appropriate thing. I screw up. Alot. But I've learned that those days are just as valuable to me as the days when visible miracles occured, like the birth of my children. Those ordinary, screwed up days are moments of vulnerability, and lessons learned. Everyday is a miracle. Every second of this crazy, exhausting, exhilirating, sad, happy, funny, ugly, beautiful life is valuable beyond measure... whether to me or to someone I love or maybe even someone whom I will never realize was affected by my simple presence. Today is an important day. Always.

Chim-Chimney...

Do you remember when Michael and Jane got sucked up the chimney in Mary Poppins? Well, this is what my son looked like after learning how to open the doors on the fireplace screen. Yes, he crawled right into the fireplace. I had to take a potty break and when I came back, I found him. Grinning at me and covered in black soot. I would have taken a picture, but I panicked and ran to the bathtub with him to get him all cleaned off. He is definitely a hand full, but he is SO much fun!

Rest....

Well, the title of our blog is "Our Crazy Life" and there is a reason! Let me share with you the last 48+ hours of our life....
Sunday, 6:30am
We woke up, showered, got dressed and started packing for our weekend in Dallas.
Kids woke up, fed them breakfast, and let them play while I finished gathering all our stuff.
Loaded some stuff in the car, helped Maddie get dressed, and fished a dirty diaper out of Maddie's toilet that Mack decided to dispose of.
Got Mack clean, dressed. Got Maddie clean and dressed.
Fished Mack out of the Guest bath toilet. He was splashing with his hands.
Finished getting me dressed. Fished Mack out of my toilet...he was about to throw the toilet paper roll in there.
Michael and I got everyone loaded in the car and we headed out.
Got to Lindale, had to stop at the Brookshires because I forgot to get the six flags tickets.
Met Momo and Papa. Maddie rode with them to Dallas and Mack slept. (ahhh....some grown up conversation for Michael and I)
Got to Dallas with Papa barely making it to a potty in time.
Checked into the hotel. Went to our room. Unloaded our stuff.
Jumped back in the car and went to eat.
Momo and Papa dropped myself, Maddie and Michael off at the Ranger game.
We stayed for 7 innings. Had great seats, but nearly passed out from heat exhaustion.
Went back to the hotel. Cleaned up.
Headed to the mall. Got to the mall. It was only open for another 30 minutes. Plenty of time for me to do some damage.
Left, ate supper.
Went back to the hotel...got the kids ready for bed.
10:30pm....Mack still not asleep. Maddie still not asleep.
11:00....finally. I can now shower the funk off of me. I was starting to smell myself.
11:30...bed.

Monday....
2:00am...Can't sleep. Michael can't sleep.
3:00am....Mack keeps moving and keeping us awake.
4:00am...Last time I looked at clock. Finally, some rest.
7:00am....Kids wide awake.
Time to start the day...Breakfast, baths, clothes, etc.
Head to Six Flags....
Ride EVERYTHING that Maddie was tall enough to ride. Some rides many times in a row. Parachutes, Bobsled, Mine Train, Kiddie Rides, Log ride, Splash Water Falls, Roaring Rapids. She LOVED standing on the bridge at Splash Water Falls and getting soaked. It was like 100 degrees or something!
6:00pm--Park closes.
In car and ready to head back to Longview.
9:00pm...arrive home.
Mack is so excited he doesn't want to sleep. He just wants to play! Read Bibles, say prayers. 10:30 everyone is in bed and asleep.
Do some work on computer.
Finally, another shower. Yeah! Bedtime. Yeah.

Tuesday...
12:00am...Michael is sniffing like crazy...he has allergies. I can't sleep.
2:00am...Last time I looked at clock...
7:00am...Everyone is up. We do the usual. Get breakfast, get dressed, get Maddie off for school. Do some work on computer.
Try and get Mack ready, I have to pick Maddie up early today for her school party.
Get dressed, get Mack a bath and get him dressed. Put him in the crib to fall asleep while I get everything loaded in the car for the party (bicycles, stroller, snacks, lunch, diaper bags, etc.).
Do some work on the computer.
Hear Mack shrieking. Walk in and see explosive poop all over the bed, his arms, his legs, his face (yes, he layed down in it).
Clean Mack up and race out the door.
Get to Maddie's school. Pick her up. Drop off teacher gifts.
Go to Dollar Store. Buy class gifts.
Go to Target...Feed Mack his lunch, get Maddie a snack.
Buy stuff at Target.
Head to the park for another school party.
Sweat in 100 degree weather again for another 2 hours.
Head to the furniture store. Do some work. Send Michael and Mack home.
Head to the softball field to coach Maddie's softball game.
Sweat again in 100% weather.
Head home. Get the kids ready for bed. Read Bibles. Do some work.
Type this blog...bed!
Finally. Some rest.

I love my crazy life! All you moms out there with more than 2 children...I admire you!

Police Escort...

Tonight, Maddie came home in a police car!! Yes, you read it correctly. MADDIE CAME HOME IN A POLICE CAR!!!

Luckily, it was just our neighbor. Maddie went over for a birthday movie night with her best friend, Mattie. She left a 5 year old and came home 15. She announced when she got home that she was tired and going to bed and we didn't need to lay down with her.

We were heartbroken. You see, after Bible and prayers, one of us lays down with her EVERY night until she falls asleep. I'm sure the doctors would tell us this is a bad habit, but its our nightly ritual and we love it.

Apparently, being able to stay at her friends house until the late hour of 9:30pm made her feel like a BIG girl. And then, to top it off, Mattie's daddy (who is a policeman) drove her home in the police car. She thought she was so cool.

After she announced she was going to bed, Michael and I were crushed. Then, came the call we hoped for...."Mom, will you come lay with me?" Hallelujah, she still needs us.

Hopefully, this will be the last time she ever rides in a police car!!

Peace in the Storm

Wow! What a morning we had yesterday! As Michael was heading off to work, I turned on the news and much to my surprise....tornados had touched down in Canton and were heading this way. I continued to watch for the next half our and saw that it was right over Tyler. Maddie heard the weatherman say that "if you live in a mobile home, take shelter immediately." She said Momma....we have to warn Momo and Papa! I assured her that they were at work and watching and God would take care take care of them. We continued to watch as I tried to get Mack down for his nap. We saw that it passed over Tyler without incident, but was now just west of Longview and the rotation was reforming. The sirens went off and I began to think were we would hide. Our house has only two inner rooms...a tiny blanket closet and the pantry outside the kitchen. I had Mack asleep in my arms because I was afraid to lay him in his bed, so I had Maddie (who was home from school because she had strep throat by the way) start pulling stuff out of the bottom of the pantry and get some pillows. I watched the news and continued to look out the window to see grey clouds swirling above. They said the storm was weakening, but the winds started picking up and I could see the clouds swirling, so we got in the closet anyway.

Praise God, Mack stayed asleep until just before we heard the weatherman give the all clear and we reemerged from our hiding spot. Maddie and I snuggled up under the pillows with a flashlight and told silly stories. It's actually been on of my favorite memories with her.

I'm so thankful that God knows me. He knew that had Maddie been at school today, I would have been in a panic. He knew to schedule our doctor's appointment just late enough that we wouldn't be out on the road when this occured. He knew to send the storms through during Mack's naptime or we would have had a long 15 minutes in that tiny closet.

I'm so grateful that God provides us shelter in the midst of our storms. We are thankful everyday as we continually see His hand at work even in our every day lives.

Life's a Potty...

Today, I was in the kitchen cooking dinner and Mack was crawling around under the table playing with a tennis ball. I saw him start heading for the guest bathroom and didn't think much of it because he likes to pull up on the bathtub and knock the shampoo bottles off, etc. So, I'm cooking and he's playing. The next thing I know I look over and see Mack standing at the potty on his tippy toes and reaching in for this...

And yes, there is pee pee in there too. "Someone" forgot to flush.

Pain Relief...

I have a fear of going to the dentist. I have had so much work done in my mouth since I was a young child (palatal separator, braces, retainers, cavities) that I hate for people to mess with anything remotely connected to my teeth. This fear has led to lots of PAIN. This week, I had such an excruciatingly painful toothache that I broke down and used ALL of the pain medication that I had left over from delivering Mack. I had never taken one of the pills until this week, so I guess I could say that my tooth caused more pain than bearing a child! If I spoke to any of you this week and said something goofy...I was extremely medicated and I don't remember it. Well,I finally sucked it up and called the dentist....Dr. Greg. Dr. Greg said "Root Canal" and though I didn't let it show, panic quickly flooded every fiber of my being. I was terrified. The last root canal I had done left me in tears. Not to mention, "doctor greg" is just barely out of dental school! I hid my fear behind a mask of laughing gas and let him do his work. And, after all was said and done, I have to say that Dr. Melton is the BEST dentist I have ever been too. He did a great job and I would recommend him to anyone. Greg, you are going to have an amazing career and I am so proud of you. Its hard to believe that the little pimple faced kid I met so long ago is a doctor. Thanks brother. Now if you could just get rid of this pain in my rear. Oh wait, that's your brother....I think I'll keep that pain around for awhile. : ) One more thing...I still smell bleach.

"Little Black Sambo"

I found a bunch of old CD's with family photos on them today and took a trip down memory lane. This home video of Maddie was on there and it made me laugh so hard!
I can't believe how much she has changed! She's definitely not a little girl anymore. She's 5 going on 15 and growing up way too fast! I had such a good time reminiscing that I wanted to let you in on the fun. This was a reminder to me of how fast time goes by and how I need to treasure every minute of it. Have fun....

Cheesecake....

Anyone who knows me well, knows that I am addicted to sweets. Yes, I know all you who thought I was perfect...I do have flaws. : ) I love almost anything sweet. Saturday, Michael's parents took us to Shreveport to the Cheesecake Bistro. This was my one request for my birthday. I have to say, it was SO worth it! OK...maybe my jeans are fitting a little tighter this week, but I really don't care. Every bite I took of my creamy, rich, coconutty (is that a word), Hawaiian cheesecake was worth every bloated, tight jeaned day I have had since then. It was so good I could not stop eating it, even though my head was telling me to QUIT! So, Momo and Papa...Thank you for my day of self indulgent pigging out! It was great!

So funny!

I haven't posted in a while. Life has been crazy this week. Seems we're always on the go. So, here is a hilarious video of Maddie making Mack laugh for you to enjoy. We were going to make a video for Luke and Dylan's birthdays, but never got around to it after Mack started laughing so funny. This is the best thing in the world. Hearing those two laugh together is heaven. We are so blessed that God has given us the privilege of raising these two beautiful kids! Hope this starts your week off with a smile!

Super Star!

Maddie was a superstar at her soccer game today! We don't keep score, but we blew the other team away. She scored two goals on her own, but her team scored like 20 thanks to her (but who's counting)! She was awesome. Those little legs never stopped running. We're so proud of her and how she just keeps on going and keeps on trying. She is the funniest and smartest 5 year old we have ever seen. She's so smart its hard for us to remember sometimes that she is only five. We have been doing a study from "Grace Based Parenting" and as I'm typing this I am reminded about a session that warned parents about giving their children empty praise. His example was not to tell your child they are the best slider in the whole world....when anyone can slide down a slide. Hmmm, but isn't she the best slider in the world? Really though, I'm not throwing out empty praise. All of what I said is true. She truly is the smartest and funniest 5 year old I've ever seen and she really was a soccer superstar today. And most of all, she has a sweet heart and loves Jesus. We love her.

Yep....

Sorry, this one's a little crude, but it made us laugh. We were practicing softball in the front yard with Maddie. Michael was playing catcher, Maddie was batting and I was pitching. I pitched and Maddie swung and missed. Michael threw the ball back to me but it was a little short and rolled between my legs. Michael yells to the neighborhood...."look Maddie....Mom has a hole between her legs!"........................................................................yep.

What?!

So, we live in the country. Which means, we pass a lot of interesting things on our way to and from our daily lives. Yesterday, I passed a man mowing his front yard.....wearing a construction hat....with two cupholders taped to each side....a can of Budweiser in each cupholder....and a straw tube running from each can to his mouth. I guess that's one way to make mowing the yard more fun! No kidding. Oh, and I would have taken a picture but I was afraid he may release his mangy pit bull that was tied to the tree chewing on an empty Budweiser can. I hear drunk pit bulls get really aggressive.
